Help
and Support: Control Panel: Statistics
Page
Here is a brief explanation of the terms used in the stats
program
To access your web stats, login to the Control Panel, and click
on the Statistics Button. This will display an analysis of your server logs.
The server logs are continually updating, so in order to get the latest view,
you should click the 'Update' link near the top of the stats screen. You can
also choose which month you are viewing. The server maintains a history of your
site for at least the last 4 months.
The program used to generate the graphs and data that you see is
called AwStats. For detailed documentation,
please visit here: AwStats
Documentation or AwStats
FAQ. Below is a brief discussion of the items you'll be most interested
in:
Unique Visitors
This is just as it says, how many different people have visited you site. This
is an estimate only as you cannot tell when two different people connect to
your site on the same computer.
Visits
This refers to how many visits to the site people have made. Keep in mind a
single user can visit the site several times.
Hits
Any page or part of a page is considered a hit. One user can log many hits.
For example if a user comes to your website, and visits 5 of your pages, and
each page has 3 images on it, that will generate 20 hits. (5 pages, plus 3 images
on each page.)
Pages
This provides a list of how many times each page on your site was visited. A
page will not be listed if it has not been visited.
Bandwidth
Each page and image sent to the browser takes up space. Bandwidth is a measure
of this space.
Top Entry and Exit Pages
This is to provide a rough estimate of which pages are visited first by
users and which are visited just prior to leaving.
Connect to site from
This is a list of links from other sites that people have used to get to your
site.
Search Keyphrases/Keywords
This is a list of the words people have used in search engines to find your
site.
User Agents
This is a fancy name for browsers. Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera,
Konqueror, etc.. are all User Agents, and each reports itself in a unique
way to your server. Keep in mind however, that many browsers allow the
user to change it's reported name, so you might see some obvious fake
names in the listing.
Countries
This is an estimate of the areas people have come from to visit your site.
HTTP Status Codes
These codes indicate what kind of responses the server has been reporting.
This will tell you how many pages were requested that didn't exist (404),
how many pages were delivered successfully (200), how many incorrect requests
were made (400) and more. There is a short explanation given with each
code.
